South Africa, Durbanville, 24 November 2021: A collaboration by leading Cape wineries has followed the footsteps of a South African icon, producing a Cabernet Sauvignon from an exceptional vineyard that no longer exists. Its grapes hail from the same region that produced the internationally celebrated 1966 GS Cabernet Sauvignon.

While the GS and newly unveiled The Master’s Vineyards are unrelated in many ways, both highlight the calibre of terroir of the Durbanville Wine Valley (DWV) - where wine has been made since the end of the 17th century. The 1966 GS Cabernet Sauvignon was described by Wine Spectator magazine as “the one true classic wine ever produced in South Africa”. In 2015, UK authority Jancis Robinson awarded it a perfect score of 20/20.

Sense of Place is dedicated to the best individual vineyard components at the winemakers’ disposal and is a window on the provenance that flows throughout the Stellenbosch Hills portfolio. As such, quantity is limited by what the vineyard provides; and, the harmony of its growing season.

Franschhoek’s population is officially safe and is the first town in South Africa to have more than 80% of its people vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.

A project, with the full support of Premier Alan Winde, Wesgro and the Department of Health, was kick started towards the end of August, whereby the goal was to have everyone in the valley vaccinated. This was undertaken in an effort to boost the faster return of international visitors to the region, and more importantly stimulate Franschhoek’s employment growth.
