On September 1, Klein Roosboom’s classic range relaunched with a completely new, fresh and timeless look. At the same time, the latest vintages of three wines were released.

The perennially popular Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz blend, launched in 1973, remains a great Mzansi favourite. Based on annual domestic volumes sold, the equivalent of a bottle of Baronne is opened somewhere in the country every 15 seconds.

This year’s Signature Red Blend Report received 60 entries from 46 producers with 35 (58%) rating 90-plus on the 100-point quality scale. The wines were tasted blind (labels out of sight) by a three-person panel of seasoned wine experts. The Signature Red Blend Report calls for wine entries that are distinctive of their originators. Wine producers can work with any combination of varieties they like with a view to creating a blend both inimitable by competitors, truly memorable among wine lovers and perhaps authentically South African.

Shiraz SA revealed the winners of the 11th annual Shiraz SA Challenge on Thursday 17 August 2023 in Paarl, with veteran winners as well as newcomers that excelled.

The glamorous awards event brought together finalists and wine industry celebrities at Simonsvlei Wine Cellar, the wine icon that recently re-emerged as a brand and lifestyle destination. Tracey Lange, popular radio and television personality, was the master of ceremonies, and musician Schalk Joubert entertained the guests. The main sponsor was Vinventions, the international supplier of closures for wine bottles, which has been involved with Shiraz SA for many years.

The latest release of Delheim Estate's icon Grand Reserve underscores the fact that 2020 is set to be one of the best red wine vintages the Cape has experienced in recent memory. Delheim Grand Reserve, the red Bordeaux-style blend from this renowned estate in Stellenbosch's Simonsberg appellation, has - since its maiden 1981 vintage - garnered a reputation as one of South Africa's foremost red wines with the Grand Reserve 2020 one of the best renditions of this wine in its illustrious history.

Darling Cellars' Gustus Shiraz 2021 clinched a prestigious Top 12 Shiraz position at the 11th annual Shiraz SA Challenge in Paarl.  A first for Darling Cellars, this award marks a significant achievement, recognising the excellence of an outstanding wine made from the region's signature grape variety. At the same time, it brings attention to the growing acclaim garnered by Pieter-Niel Rossouw, the Head Winemaker, and the accomplished Darling Cellars team. Building on Tim Atkin MW's recognition of Darling as Producer Cellar of the Year in November 2022, the brand has continued to collect prominent awards, such as Sir Charles Darling 2019 receiving Darling’s inaugural five-star rating in Platter’s, and Gustus Sauvignon Blanc 2020 claiming the Revelation Trophy as the best-performing SA wine at the 2023 Concours Mondial du Sauvignon
