Recent appointments have seen women taking up key positions at the award-winning wine estate.

Overberg, Western Cape: Wildekrans Wine Estate, a winery in Bot River known for its award-winning wines and olive oils announced that they have recently appointed Maryke Botha & Rianie Strydom to head up their wine-making team. Along with Emma Manuel, head of hospitality, Wildekrans is proud to have a predominately female team based on their estate driving their brand forward.

Every year on 30th August, the wine world celebrates the undisputed king of red varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon – the most widely planted red grape variety in the world. With the potential for fruit, elegance, power, complexity, consistency, acidity and aging, Cabernet Sauvignon's got it all.

There is so much to love about Cabernet Sauvignon. Look for the signature aroma of black currant, and from there, depending on the wine's age and how much time it spent in barrels, aromas and/or flavours can include gorgeous notes of plums, blackberry, black cherry, blueberry, raspberry, mint, violet, eucalyptus, anise, vanilla, clove, chocolate, coffee, liquorice, tobacco, green pepper, black pepper, spice, leather and smoke.

August is South African Women’s Month, a time when we reflect on the journey of women’s rights and collectively celebrate the women making their mark in our country. At Winecellar.co.za, it’s an opportunity to honour leading women in wine by shining a spotlight on their craft – and who better to do so than the country’s foremost experts on fine wine, with a team that includes respected industry professionals and judges. Not only is Wine Cellar best placed to introduce fine wine lovers to leading South African and European producers, but also to support SA’s rising stars.

The fourth Cab Franc Carnival will take place at the beautiful Vrede en Lust Estate which is located in the centre of the Cape Winelands between Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek on Saturday 27 August from 11h00 to 16h00.

Cabernet Franc and red wine lovers will be treated to some of the best Cabernet Franc wines South Africa has to offer.  As a single varietal it has made strides over the past two decades and approximately 80 wineries in South Africa now produce a single varietal Cabernet Franc.
