Nuy Winery wins Gold at the Veritas Awards with “frozen” Sauvignon Blanc

Nuy Winery clinched a gold medal for their Nuy Mastery Sauvignon Blanc 2021 at the 2021 Veritas Awards.

Nuy Winery has always been synonym with award winning muskadel wines – in recent years they decided to explore and experiment with different cultivars in the vineyard and in the cellar and it paid off.

The winemaking team followed a different route to the traditional the winemaking process – the sauvignon blanc juice was frozen for three months at -15 °C. After the defrosting process the wine fermented as per normal.  The three month period the wine spent at this low temperature adds to the complexity of the wine.

Nuy Mastery Sauvignon Blanc 2021 is a bright, pale gold colour with distinct green hue – it exudes aromas of ripe tropical fruit with kiwi and fynbos undertones.  The wine presents hints of blackcurrant and stewed prunes.

On the pallet it is a full fruit driven wine with initial tropical fruit, making it the perfect drink of choice this summer.  The wine can be enjoyed with seafood dishes – particularly fresh crayfish.

The acidity of this wine will cleanse the palate and the balanced fruit leaf a long lingering aftertaste.

A wide wine range to choose from

Founded in 1963, the multi-award winning Nuy Winery has built their legacy on masterfully crafted wines inspired by their exceptional terroir and fine winemaking skills. This heritage is shared through free wine tastings presented daily at Nuy on the hill – for guests to discover Nuy Winery’s three ranges, ranging from easy-drinking, affordable wines to prized, limited-edition collectors’ must-haves.

  • The Inspiration range offers a wide choice of Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Colombar, Pinotage, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, two popular bubblies – an off-dry Sauvignon Blanc and a sweeter Muscat and off course, their well-known White and Red Muscadel.  A recent addition is Nuy’s first ever Merlot, a cultivar not traditionally produced in the area. Also try the fresh and fruity white blend Chant de Nuit (Song of the Night) and discover the unusual story behind it.
  • The Mastery range will treat your palate to a more complex pick of Sauvignon Blanc Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage.  An award-winning fruity craft gin (awarded Double Gold at the 2021 SA Gin Awards) is also part of this range – the gin can be tasted at a fee or enjoyed as a uniquely designed gin cocktail.
  • Legacy, Nuy’s flagship range, is the winemaker’s playground and bottles the best – single cultivars, blends, a MCC and a Copper Potstilled Brandy.  The Calcareo, Latin for “chalky soil”, and the Argilla, Italian for “clay”, beautifully represent the valley’s terroir and its unique characters.
