The Wine Hive by NOMOYA

Today marks the first of many exciting wine tasting adventures in the beautiful historic building on Hoffmans Lane, Paarl, dating back to 1797. It is now beautifully renovated and restored – inviting visitors into a lush garden before luring them into a trendy, checkered-tiled courtyard where you are greeted by a new open plan wine bar called The Wine Hive.

The Wine Hive joins the buzz of this heritage town as the brainchild of agronomist AttilioDalpiaz and Michela Sfiligoi, winemaker and marketing professional, who exchanged Italy for the South African wine scene 17 years ago. They never looked back, celebrating their heritage while embracing a new home country, and in 2021 it was time for a new chapter.
In partnership with Talia Engelbrecht – a young, passionate viticulturist – they founded Nomoya Wines, which can now also call The Wine Hive its home.

Boasting the longest main road in the country, Paarl always produces exciting visitors’ gems, and The Wine Hive now joins its ranks on 161 Main Road featuring more than 100 local wines and 40 Italian wines from different regions and varieties. Sfiligoi is thrilled about their plans, with more stellar examples from France, Australia and New Zealand joining their offering.

“We called it The Wine Hive as a beehive is always buzzing with excitement. Bees also represent sustainability, and we believe the Hive will serve an educational, entertaining and aspirational purpose for South Africans to see local wines in a broader context and
appreciate its incredible diversity.”

On the winemaking side of things, their future local endeavours include reviving Italian
grape cultivars, seeking out old vines and focusing on adding popular and niche varietals to
the Nomoya brand. As part of The Wine Hive experience, their daily offering will include ten
different wines available by the glass, paired with classic Italian platters and Trapizzino – an
Italian favourite by Pizza Connection that was created by maestro Stefano Callegari in Rome.

“We are ecstatic that we could make it happen within a few months. It is a dream come true
celebrating South African Wines, promote Nomoya and contribute to tourism.”

The Wine Hive will be open from Tuesday to Saturday between 10:00 and 18:00. On
Wednesday and Friday afternoons, visitors can look forward to themed wine tasting events.

This will be an opportunity for wine lovers to meet the winemaker, compare grape varietals
grown globally, and taste how other winemaking countries express their terroir in unique
wines. Off course there will be authentic food like artisanal meats and cheeses to
complement your tailormade experience!

Pop in for a sip and a snack or let either Michela
or Talia help you pick out special wines to enjoy at home. See you there!
