South Africa, Stellenbosch, November 2020; With a philosophy of only releasing the very best expression of The Garland’s single-vineyard cabernet sauvignon site, Simonsig’s previous vintage release was the 2011. Enter 2015, which is considered one of the best, if not the greatest-ever vintage for South African wine, and most especially associated with producing long-lived cabernet sauvignon as well as Bordeaux-style blends.

Nestled in Stellenbosch’s Paradyskloof Valley is Vriesenhof Wine Estate, with its south facing slopes that have been used to cultivate grapes that produce wines of character since the eighteenth century. But one cannot discuss character and Vriesenhof without mentioning larger than life owner and cellar master Jan ‘Boland’ Coetzee, who was one of the great characters of Western Province Rugby and is today one of the senior statesmen of the Cape wine industry.
