Top scores again for 9 wines in the Anthonij Rupert portfolio in latest Atkin Report

When it comes to producing wines of premium quality, consistency is integral, and Anthonij Rupert Wyneโ€™s Cape of Good Hope range continues to impress leading UK Master of Wine, Tim Atkin. In his highly anticipated 2021 South Africa Special Report, he scored seven wines in this range an impressive 90+, respectively. This yearโ€™s top scorers were the Cape of Good Hope Van Lill & Visser Chenin Blanc 2020 and Cape of Good Hope Serruria Chardonnay 2019, which each scored 94 points out of a possible 100.

Hot on the heels of their success was the Altima Sauvignon Blanc 2020 (92 points), Riebeeksrivier Caroline 2018 (93 points), Riebeeksrivier Chenin Blanc 2020 (92 points), Riebeeksrivier Southern Slopes 2017 (93 points) and Riebeeksrivier Western Slopes 2017 (92 points). Not only did the Cape of Good Hope range impress Atkin, but another two wines in the Anthonij Rupert range also made it onto his coveted list, which included the Cabernet Franc 2015 (91 points) and Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 (92 points).

Atkin tasted around 1 800 wine samples sent to him in London, as well as conducting numerous Zoom calls to assist him in publishing his ninth report. Overall, he was extremely impressed with the quality of the wines he tasted, in particular the 2017 and 2020 vintages. Furthermore, he is more convinced than ever that the 2017 vintage deserves its place among the best-ever Cape harvests, even more so than the 2015 harvest.
