International Double Gold triumph for Survivor Sauvignon Blanc  Survivor, the intrepid Swartland range of Overhex Wines International, has triumphed at the 2018 Six Nations Wine Challenge bringing home Double Gold for its acclaimed 2017 Sauvignon Blanc. This is the third major accolade awarded to this vibrant Survivor Sauvignon Blanc vintage after striking gold at both the 2018 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show and the 2017 Michelangelo International Awards.

The 2004 vintage of Nederburg’s Private Bin S316 Weisser Riesling Noble Late Harvest has won the 2018 Six Nations Wine Challenge trophy in Sydney, Australia, for the best dessert wine.   “Made entirely from Weisser Riesling grapes affected by botrytis cineria (noble rot) – a very rare occurrence – this straw-yellow wine is truly exceptional!  I do believe that this is one of the very best noble late harvest wines Nederburg has ever made,” says Andrea Freeborough, Nederburg’s cellar-master.

Novel Mensa wine & book pairing during National Book Week

The words “ My Book Club Reads Wine Labels "  comes to mind when I think of the genius idea behind #MensaWines I must admit, in January this year I really was a super reader by my standards. In the 1st month alone a read 2 books was a lot.  That  number quickly dwindle down to a few chapters a months and here I find myself in August with only 2 ½ books to my name.  I take pleasure in reading a hard copy as I relish in that new book smell unfortunately one of the disadvantages of this  that you have to remember to take the book along with you wherever you go with that being said, the book either gets lost or damaged.

The 2018 Sommeliers Selection listed wines announced

The Sommeliers Selection is the only South African wine competition judged solely by a panel of South Africa’s top sommeliers, in categories fashioned around the perfect varietals for a restaurant wine menu.

This year, more than 300 wines were entered into the contest which was held in Cape Town in mid-June.
