Winemaker Justin van Wyk, the sage behind Constantia Glen’s acclaimed cool climate wines, is the 2021 Diners Club Winemaker of the Year in recognition of his Platter 5-star Bordeaux-style blend, the Constantia Glen FIVE.

The Winemaker of the Year award, now in its 41st year, is regarded as South Africa’s most prestigious and well-respected wine competition. This year’s award honours the country’s best winemaker of a Bordeaux-style red blend.

Platter’s by Diners Club Wine Guide has revealed the eagerly awaited and prestigious list of wines earning the maximum rating of five stars in the new 2022 edition.

The unveiling coincides with the launch of the guide on Platter’s digital platforms - the apps for iOS/Apple and Android, and the website (www.wineonaplatter.com). The best-selling and collectible hardcover version of the new edition will be introduced at a bespoke function in the winelands on Friday 19 November 2021.

The recovery of the hospitality industry, which is still reeling from the effects of Covid-19, will largely depend on how well the sector realigns itself to the “new normal” and addresses shifts in consumer behaviour and spending patterns.

And according to Distell HR and Corporate Affairs Director, André Opperman, skills development focused on delivering a better tourist experience and managing costs effectively, will also be key to this realignment.
