C is for L’Avenir Country Lodge
We traded the city lights for fireflies and the sound of beeping cars for crickets
Our home away from home was the luxurious L’Avenir Country Lodge (pronounced “love in here”). Nestled in the valley below Simonsberg Mountains, L’Avenir Country Lodge offers some of the best views of the Stellenbosch Winelands.
Stellenbosch wine route is approximately 35km from Cape Town, a mere 20-minute drive from the airport and 50km from Table Mountain. Stellenbosch wine route is the gateway to South African’s wine industry, with well over 150 wine farms. The Wine of Origin is regarded as the capital of the South African wine industry. Stellenbosch wine route includes 5 sub-routes, each having their own characteristics in terms of prominent wine styles, climates and the geographical location.
Upon arrival Fiona directed us to our room, decorated with shades of earthy tones which immediately makes you feel relaxed. The ever stylish rooms are each stationed with a complimentary coffee bar, the perfect drink when relaxing on the patio in the morning. Each room has a selection of award wines including rare vintages.
The Country Lodge boasts under floor heating, conference facilities and a number of activities which makes it almost impossible to leave. Which is probably why my husband falls asleep immediately after hitting the pillow. I stayed awake a bit longer to enjoy the sound of crickets and strong winds
Before we knew it, it was morning, One things for sure, those curtains know how to keep the sun out. Breakfast is served in the dining area that overlooks the dam, a picturesque to enjoy with the smell of freshly brewed coffee thanks to Elmarie.
Whether you prefer a healthy or hearty breakfast, the continental breakfast has you covered. I also enjoyed the selection of teas available.
On Saturday afternoon, a friend joined me in the winelands for wine tasting and after a few glasses of L’Avenir Pinotage, she decided to book a room for the night.
Lavenir has some of the most amazing , warm and truly customer service orientated staff, I think for that really was the highlight of my stay, We felt a bit peckish after 9pm and in no time Wesley arranged a platter with cheese, baguettes olives and wine.
There are many reasons why I love visiting the Stellenbosch wine route, one of them is the close proximity of the wine farms. The fact that It’s so easy and convenient to visit more than one wine farm!
The dramatic slopes of Botmanskop or the slopes of Helderberg Mountain, where you’ll be mesmerized by the views.
The reason I keep going back is the warm and friendly people.
They are wheel chair friendly and boast a variety of eateries to suite each palette, dietary requirement and budget. The area is popular with tourist so it would help to book ahead although they will try to accommodate walk ins if there’s any openings.
Here’s an extra sip: Although the country lodge is wheel chair friendly although there are a one or two tight areas. Guest are treated to complementary wine tasting. L’Avenir Country Lodge is blissful in winter but I can only imagine summer at the pool.
