What makes a perfect restaurant and wine bar? For me it must be an all-inclusive experience where one thing does not outweigh another. Throw in a perfect location and you have my full attention.

Having dined at Belthazar once or twice before recent renovations, I must say I’m seriously impressed. The service was extraordinary right from the time we entered the restaurant and were greeted by the friendly staff ready to take us on a gastronomic experience

Often being one of few in my circle who indulges in alcoholic beverages, the variety offered is exceptional. The Belthazar menu offers a Meat and Seafood Extravaganza which make one’s choices very difficult

Belthazar have an extensive game menu and I decided to try an eland steak – with the chef’s special red wine sauce and creamy spinach – which was tender and flavoursome.

Choosing the wine was made easier thanks to Leroy our sommelier who assisted us in selecting a superb Platter’s 5-Star red wine, the 2014 Haskell Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon. Belthazar, known as the wine bar with ‘the biggest wine by the glass selection in the world’ offers wine ranging from R45 to R300 a glass, all superb wines.

When a glass just isn’t enough, the wine bottle prices range between R180 and R3600. With the guidance of a sommelier, you’ll be sipping on some of the best wines of South Africa
